Yes, aromatherapy can help with headaches.
Specific scents differ considering the type of pain, but in most cases fresh scents are used to alleviate tension and headache, scents like peppermint, geranium, rose, rosemary, lavender (lavender is great for relieving pain, can also put it directly on skin), chamomile essential oil, and also citrus scents can be helpful.
It is best if she gently massages her neck, shoulders if hurt, otherwise apply massage oil blend to the temples, forehead and to the base of the skull using clock wise circular pressure with your fingertips. Be gentle, relax and inhale the scent you are massaging. It is best to lay down in dark room for 10 minutes
It is very important to know that only few essential oils can be applied directly on skin, therefore mix essential oils with oils carriers, such as sunflower oil or soy or some other that doesn’t have too strong smell (like olive oil does). Use small amount of oil, not more than 20 ml. When using such oil amount, you do not need more than 10 drops of essential oil (it is best to use eyedropper to be sure about those 10 drops, you really do not need more). Keep in dark glass jar with a lid. Before massaging, shake.
