| I have been thinking about going on a pill. Some people have recommended cilest, and I was wondering how this pill actually works and what its effects are. Are there many side effects? I have been trying to do some reading on my own before visiting my gynaecologist, so I will appreciate any information that you can give me. |

Cilest is a hormonal birth control pill that can be used for contraception, endometriosis and various menstrual disorders. These pills contain synthetic versions of female sex hormones that naturally occur in a woman’s body. The hormones in the pill are called ethinylestradiol and norgestimate and they are the synthetic versions of oestrogen and progesterone.
Pills like Cilest make your body believe that ovulation has already occurred. They prevent an egg from being released from the ovaries each month. At the same time, they change the lining of the womb and reduce the possibility of a fertilised egg being implanted there.
In addition to protecting women from pregnancy, Cilest can be prescribed for women who have menstrual disorders. One of the effects of this pill are lighter and regular periods, which can help women who suffer from painful, heavy or irregular menstrual bleeding.
As is the case with any other drug, Cilest pills have side effects. These may include nausea and vomiting, decreased sex drive, breast enlargement, menstrual spotting and breakthrough bleeding. If any of these occur, or if you notice other unwanted effects, make sure you consult with your gynaecologist. He or she will be able to tell you what course of action would be best for you in such circumstances. |
