Essential oils safety information
Most essential oils are safe and without side effects if used properly. However, you should pay attention to the following factors:
- Keep essential oils out of reach of children- amounts as small as a teaspoon can resulted in death
- Use extreme caution when using oils with children and give children only the gentlest oils at extremely low doses. The safest is to consult a qualified aromatherapy practitioner before using oils with children. Never use peppermint essential oil with young children!
- Never use essential oils near eyes (if diluted essential oil enters eye, flush with clean water; if undiluted essential oil enters eye flush with vegetable oil cold full fat milk; if this doesn’t help seek medical assistance)
- Do not apply undiluted essential oils directly on skin (except lavender and tea tree in moderate amounts)
- Use cream or vegetable oil to dilute neat oils spills on skin; apply soap, wash with warm water; repeat if necessary
- Excess of essential oils can cause headache and nausea. Drink plenty water and get fresh air.
- If you are pregnant, epileptic, have liver damage, have cancer, or have any other medical problem, use essential oils only under the proper guidance of a qualified aromatherapy practitioner.
- [b]Dosage and proper application method are key factora in essential oil safety (essential oils can be safe when used in one way but not if used another way- for example: cinnamon is safe to inhale but not safe to apply on skin)
