The most important is that fishing sunglasses (or any other sunglasses that are used near water) are polarized. Polarization is a must in glare conditions. Frames should be wrap-arounds to provide maximum anti-glare protection. I think pink color lenses work best near water surfaces.
However, I think buying sunglasses for someone else or buying them online for yourself (and never trying them before) is not a good idea. I spend some time looking for glasses that fit, and there is no other option but to try them on. If you decide to buy them, make sure your father can return them if they don’t fit.
