This really depends- there is no universal color to suit all styles. Basic fashion rules tell us not to ‘break’ whatever you’re wearing, but more to give meaningful connection between legs and shoes, and of course hosiery must be in some sort of connection with the top you’re wearing (not necessary the color). So we are searching for ‘meaningful’ silhouette
For example- if you are wearing all black, short black dress, and black shoes, you can either wear either thicker black hosiery that will emphasis dark look or hosiery with some sheer, which will lighten up the look.
Of course all depends what look you want to achieve- namely, sometimes, and especially with dresses – it can be overwhelming to match hosiery to dress and shoes. If, let’s say- dress is black and the shoes are black- the whole silhouette is black – and you still want to add black to the bare legs? No, no, no! In this case it can really look to heavy (and dresses are supposed to be light), so better choose hosiery in the color of your skin (no toes if wearing open sandals!).
Another example could also be descriptive and women also wear this combination lots: black pants – every woman wears them. Top is usually in brighter color. If you wear shoes that are same color as top (let’s say white), it would really look strange if you would wear black hose (and vice versa white hose on black shoes). In this it is best to choose between the hosiery of shoes color or ones that are the color of skin. I would decide for skin color (my favourite and most practical). Also, if your hose are black, top is light color, but shoes are black – you can wear any color that you have on you- black, the color of top or skin colored hosiery.
Huh, that’s it. I hope I have covered all hosiery basic fashion rules |
