|
|
| I’ve notice some people wearing night driving glasses, I also saw some ads in the press. They are mostly tinted yellow, amber. Is there any research made whether glasses have positive effect on night driving? |

This is actually common misconception- and advertising could be held responsible for this…
Actually, researches were made and they proved that wearing any glasses at night makes vision worse.
Amber tint has some abilities that other tins don’t- it reduces glare and improves contrast. The main function of any tint is reducing the amount of light transmitted to the eye- any lens that is tinted simply does that, no matter what color- amber, pink, … in already dark conditions tinted lens additionally reduces the amount of light, and this definitely not what driver needs at night. Windscreens have the same effect- it is forbidden to have tinted windscreen.
My friend actually wears amber tinted eyeglasses although I explained the philosophy behind- tint reduces light and reduces visibility on dark road. Yellow is great for foggy conditions in daytime, but is not helpful against headlight glare. |

| I recommend you discuss this topic with your doctor- I was prescribed a pair of spectacles with clear lenses and AR coating, which minimizes internal reflections within the lenses and increases transmittance of light through the lens. However, I required visual correction and distance prescription. AR is not capable of improving your vision beyond the point that exists if no lenses are worn, which means AR coated lenses will not improve night vision. |

If you are driving at night,
wearing sunglasses is really bad. You might have
a car accident. Be careful |
