| Hi, i work as beautician in a saloon. I heard ladies talk yesterday, and they said that women working as beauticians are in higher risk of giving birth to baby with defects or even to miscarriage. Anyone here knows something more about this. We are namely thinking about pregnansy, but i am afraid that cosmetic that i work with could harm my pregnansy. Please, respond! |

I was reading a study from the Department of Epidemiology, School of Public Health, University of North Carolina, and according to their research it is true what you've heard.
All women, working in cosmetic industry, which includes not only beauticians, but also hairdressers and others that have daily contact with cosmetic products and are that way exposed to above average contact with chemicals (either through skin, inhalation...) are linked to increased spontaneous abortion risk.
There is another study proving that women who work as hairdressers and are daily exposed to hair care products or dyes have 3, 7 times increased risk for having mentally retarded child.
I would like to tell you- don't worry and that you'll be all right, but i can't do that- it is against my ethics. I would truly advise you to quit that job (or involving in any other with chemicals) for your own and baby's sake. |
