Pregnancy typically lasts 9 months or 40 weeks. 40 weeks (9 months) are divided into three periods, called trimesters. In every trimester different things happen to pregnant woman's body and of course to the baby. In this article we will research changes that pregnant woman may experience during each trimester. Since every pregnancy and every woman is different, the changes described bellow may happen earlier or later than they appear on this list, or may even not appear in some pregnancies.
First trimester
First trimester or first three months last from week 1 to week 2.
Typicall signs for first trimester:
- delay or difference in menstruation; periods do not stop always immediately - they may become very light
- swollen and tender breasts
- enlarged and darker nipples and areola (area around nipples)
- nausea and vomiting also reffered as morning sickness, but it can happen any time of the day
- frequent urination and constipation
- fatigue
- backaches and headaches
- increased body temperature
- mood swings
- increased sensitivity to odors and food cravings
Second trimester
Second trimester or second three months last from week 13 to week 26.
Typicall signs for second trimester:
- baby moving
- weight gain
- breasts get bigger
- appearance of colostrum (thin fluid) may come out of nipples
- appearance of first stretchmarks and dry skin (to reduce this affect use hydrating lotion)
- some women develop varicose veins
- heartburn
- constipation and indigestion
- edema may occur: swelling of feet, ankles, hands, fingers and face
- development of darker area or pigmentation on face
- development of dark line on skin between navel and pubic area
Third trimester
Third trimester or third three months last from week 27 to week 40.
Typicall signs for third trimester:
- navel pushes out
- moving of baby is visible from the outside
- often backaches
- accomonadion of walk due to increased weight of the baby
- shortness of breath
- mood swings
- experiencing painless contractions
- finally, labor and delivery!
