This reconstruction surgery can be done for men who have lost their penis because of accident or illness, and as well for men, actually physically women, who want to change their sex into male.
Procedure is almost the same for both groups of people, though with transmen it is little bit more complicated. This is because of the urethra, which in transmen ends near the vaginal opening and thus needs to be lengthen. This is where most complications occur.
In transmen labia is united to form a scrotum, then testicles are inserted.
Artificial penis is not inserted yet- it is done in separate procedures because of the healing reasons. Basically, there are 3 different techniques for creating artificial penis for transmen. One technique is using free graft from the inside of the forearm or upper arm or leg. Another option is using a muscle from the belly and third one is using fatty tissue from the belly.
The least invasive treatment for transmen is hormone replacement therapy. Small penis is created from the clitoris, which has been enlarged by the hormone replacement therapy. |
