Yes, sure. Chocolate was originally used as medicine, and still can be … although most of us think about rather eating it than being treated with it.
When I think of my self, and other people- we are eat chocolate when we are depressed, irritated, sad, happy…
Ok, chocolade can be used in aromatherapy for different purposes:
Chocolate is aphrodisiac- it is known that in Latin America they were, and still are using it as aphrodisiac. When eating chocolade: chocolade contains valeric acid, which is sedative and tranquilizer; chocolate also contains neurotransmitter dopamine, which acts as a relaxant. When eating chocolate that substances react in a certain way in our body; and as we smell it; and perhaps you know that smell is 10 times more sensitive sense than taste, we automatically think of the feeling chocolate produced when we ate it. So, yes, actually chocolate works the same way we eat it or smell it, because brain reminds us what it tastes like and how it influences our bodies when we ate chocolate.
Chocolate works when are being tired. Chocolate is also known to be very gentle stimulant,- it contains stimulant theobromine, which is a substance related to caffeine, but it does not have the negative effects as caffeine does. Chocolate also contains relaxant valeric acid and the anti-anxiety compound glutamic acid which counter balances the stimulant effect of theobromine. This is why we were often recommended to eat chocolate is being nervous; for exmaplke before exams, etc. – it relaxes without consequences.
Some researches claim that chocolate can help people loose weight- there are even diets made which are based on chocolates. Researches prove that when person eats breain releases happy chemicals, and this is why people feel happier- this explains emotional eating: people feel happier and more satisfied when they eat. Chocolate can prevent overeating, because it contains anti-depressant compounds, and theobromine, is beside being stimulant also known to make you feel less hungry, which means it acts as anorexic.
When you ask people what they eat when they are feeling down, they will tell you chocolate. Why? Because chocolate contains amino acids, and many of which have been shown to be antidepressants.
So, chocolate is good for eating or in aromatherapy, and can be used as aphrodisiac, when you are being tired, depressed, and even when you want to loose weight.
