The reasons behind people wanting to lighten their skin are many and range from wanting to treat freckles or other irregular dark spots to simply wanting a fairer skin. The process of restricting the production of melanin and thus achieving a lighter skin tone is called skin whitening.
Different products designed to help people achieve this very goal can be found on the market. However, their questionable quality makes them somewhat infamous, and for this reason people choose to resort to homemade lighteners.
Among the ingredients that are usually found in such recipes are lemon juice, egg whites and buttermilk. These are supposed to have a slight bleaching effect and applying them is said to result in a somewhat fairer and more even toned complexion.
Unfortunately, there seems to be an ongoing debate concerning their effectiveness. While some people suggest that their regular application has favourable results, many oppose them, writing them off as old wives’ tales or dangerous concoctions that could irritate your skin.
Recipes for homemade skin lighteners can be found, and they are usually quite simple and probably slightly safer to use than artificial bleachers. No one can guarantee their success, but some might say that it would not hurt to try them. In the end, the choice is yours. |
