I, as many others, suffer from acne. I would like to know more about the possible ways of treating them. Apart from being an unpleasant sight, they sometimes cause me emotional problems. How are we to get rid of blocked hair follicles?

Blocked hair follicles, or acne, are a common skin problem caused by the inflammation of the hair follicles and sebaceous glands in our skin. Though these flare-ups are quite frequent in our teen years, they will not stop bothering us throughout our life. Therefore, the question that concerns us all is how to get rid of them.
The first thing to remember is that we cannot prevent them. Blocked hair follicles are a fact, so we should try focusing on treating them, instead of obsessing over them.
As for their treatment, this can be done in several ways.
You might want to try using some of the lotions that can be found on the market. Your skin might react favourably to them and they could lessen your problem.
These lotions can contain benzyl peroxide gels, which are said to be an excellent aid in your fight against acne. When applied to your skin in form of a thin film, they will work by drying and peeling your skin and fighting bacteria and inflammation. Since lotions contain their weaker form, you can always get a prescription from your doctor for a stronger and more effective gel forms.
Additionally, some antibiotics can be applied directly to your skin to reduce the growth of the bacteria that are caused by acne.
Finally, if your problem cannot be treated with these over-the-counter lotions, seek advice from your doctor or a dermatologist. Professional medical advice can turn what seems as a problem that does not want to go away into a minor and passing irritation.

It is an essential oil that is diluted and applied topically to acne lesions.

Zinc
Zinc is another popular home remedy for acne. A couple of research studies have found that zinc is somewhat effective. While it was more effective than a placebo, antibiotic medication was still more effective. In light of this, it may not be the best option when scarring is a possibility.

Side effects of zinc include digestive upset and a metallic taste in the mouth. At high doses, zinc may lead to copper deficiency, weakened immune function, anemia, and heart problems. There is some concern that higher doses may reduce levels of HDL ("good") chholesterol.

Zinc may also interfere with the absorption of magnesium and iron from food and supplements. It can interfere with the absorption of tetracycline and fluoroquinolone antibiotics and penicillamine. There is also some concern that a particular diuretic, amiloride, can reduce zinc excretion and lead to a toxic build-up in the body.
