The main point of infra-red sauna are infra-red rays, which penetrate into the body, which is very helpful for health and body.
Infra-red sauna helps reducing cellulite, it endears pain in arthritis, helps treating springs and treats muscular pain.
Temperature is between 40 and 60 degrees, humidity 13%. |

no, it is not dangerous.
Infra-red sauna works on the same principle as infra-red heat, which has been used more than 30 years in incubators for premature babies. |

| What is the main difference between infra-red and 'normal' sauna? I read it is possible to loose weight, and that is serves as a substitute for exercising. |

There is no substitute for exercising except exercising. Anyone who writes that writes it because of marketing campaign. Doctors would recommend than exercising 3-4 times a week or infra-red sauna, but they don't. I am not saying that infra-red sauna does not eliminates toxines from the body, but it cannot work instead exercising. When you exercise, you make your heart beat faster and breathe heavier- that way you influence your heart. If that would happen on the temperature that is achieved in sauna, you would probably die. So, it is nonsense to claim something that infra-red sauna can be a substitute for exercising. Besides people are suppose to exercise at least 3-4 times a week, if you would go to sauna that often you would practically eliminate all salts and minerals from your body. Not recommended!
Btw, besides incubators... I think Nasa also uses infra-red heat, but i am not sure about that info. |

The difference between conventional sauna and infra-red sauna lies in few things. First conventional sauna is hotter than infra-red (180 - 225 F) and it heats only superficially, while infra-red uses infra-red rays (as someone above said) and penetrates one inch and a half below the skin surface. It is not as hot as conventional- it has only 110-220 F degrees, so it is not the heat. Infra-red rays are the one that bring all benefits of infra-red sauna (they make you sweat...), while with conventional sauna- heat is the one that makes you sweat like a pig
To answer first question of this thread- infra-red rays are the one that influence elimination of toxins, reduction of cellulite and other health benefits.
But i agree with previous poster- infra-red sauna may have many health benefits, but it cannot substitute exercising! |
