Nonsurgical facelift is actually called thermage and works on principle of heat, which means it uses heat from a radio frequency device to tighten or lift the skin.
There is no general anesthesia used, instead a cream with numbing effects is applied to the areas that are being worked on; in thermage this are areas around eyes and forehead. This is why thermage is best used with patients with little photoaging and wrinkles, who are in their 30 ties to 50 ties.
Procedure lasts few hours and due to numbing cream it is not completely pain-free, it causes namely some burning and pinching sensations, but it is actually not painful experience.
About longevity of procedure… nonsurgical results are not that lasting as those from surgical procedure, which results take up to 10 years. Nonurgical facelift which btw costs approx. 2 thousand dollars (surgical facelift is up to 15 thousand and lasts up to 10 years) effects last minimum 6 months and maximum 2 years. Difference is also recovery time, which is in nonsurgical facelift few days (some patients for example return to their daily obligations day after the procedure), while with surgical procedure recovery time is 2 or more weeks.
Also one important difference- the results of procedure itself is less obvious with nonsurgical lift and is usually less than expected from patients.
--hope this helps
