My mother has rosacea and would like to know if she can uses anti-aging creams that contain alpha-hydroxy acids. One of them caused her irritation, at least probably this was the cause. And since alpha-hydroxy acids are very powerful skincare products, we would like to know first if they counteract with rosacea.
Thank you very much! |

This is true, alpha-hydroxy acids are very powerful ingredients in skincare products, and have ability to clear acne lesions, erase wrinkles, and reduce pore size. There isno doubt they are effective, but they are also strong irritants. And this is true no matter what is stated on products label (..for sensitive skin, etc). Even studies were made and medical experts claim that alpha-hydroxy acids are one of the most common sources of facial irritation- they acids are so powerful that they can cause direct irritation to blood vessels and can damage the epidermis.
The same is with chemical peels, and other powerful skincare products- Glycolic acid and lactic acid of any strength are powerful irritants and should never be used by people with rosacea.
In conclusion, NO, your mother should never use anti-aging creams that contain alpha-hydroxy acids, because they can cause irritation and flushing. Some experts even stress they can cause intense and long lasting facial redness in many rosacea sufferers. |
