I have a question about 'pregnansy ticker'. I am 29, and still not planning to have a baby in near future, in five years or something like that. Is it true that women above age 35 are in greater danger (considering their and baby's health) if they get pregnant. Is that true or is it just a myth? If true, what risks do women above age 35 compromise?
Thank you very much for respond! |

This is not a myth, but it is also not as scary as it may seem at first. Most women in their mid thirties have healthy pregnancies. My mother gave birth to my brother when she was 36, and he is very healthy 18- year old. My mother was also the youngest of 8 children, and my grandmother gave her birth at 42 or something like that. So, most pregnancies are healthy, but as woman ages and as her pregnansy ticker ticks, there is a greater chance of having problematic pregnancy or similar.
Some pregnancy problems are more common in 'older' pregnant women, and these are preeclampsia and gestational diabetes, but the greater risk for woman above 35, as someone above said is, infertility and miscarriage. People think that birth defects are more common with older women- now, this is a myth!
However, i am sure you heard somewhere that Down syndrome is in connection with older woman giving birth, but still the chance does not increase drastically. For example, women under age 35 have less than 1% possibility of giving birth to a child with Down syndrome or some other chromosome-related disorder, while women at age 35, have 1% chance. The possibility increases with woman's age. However, testing down syndrome is possible...
I hope this helps, although i recommend you should talk to your doctor about this. I guess genes have something to do with this too. |

| Pregnansy ticker... I would say there is some truth in this, but everything can be worked out. If you live a healthy life and if your family doesn't have some genetic diseases, I think you should be allright. besides, you can always ask your gyn when you go there for examination. |
