Hi, Sonia!
About preparing for chemical peel... you will be definitelly instructed how to follow skin care regimen. Probably this regimen will include use of AHAs, Hydroquinone and Retin A. Use of this preparates will make the peel more effective and you'll be less likely to hyperpigment after the procedure (which is also the answer to your question about the dangeour)
So, about preparing- you'll be giver the EXACT instructions, when you decide for it.
Glycolic acid is in the group of fruit acids, because glycolic acid is derived from sugar cane. As well as glycolic acid, also glycolic acid peel is formulated from sugar cane, which creates mild exfoliating action. Glycolic acid peel stimulates collagen growth and worls by loosening up the horny layer and exfoliating the superficial top layer.
After the peeling you'll be also given the exact instructions how to manage your skin. Besdies that you'll be given high quality moisturizer, skin preparation lotions and sunblock. You'll use later to protect the newly uncovered skin from the harmful UV rays. The skin will crack itself and peel of, you just need to follow the instructions given and use all preparates given- do not try to peel it youself- it will peel naturally.
About REtin A... you'll be given Retin A, I am sure. Retin A is the only FDA
approved photo damage treatment. It can be in the form of lotion or cream. With retin A it is also strongly recommended to follow the exact instructions.
I hope this helped a little, anyhow it is best to discuss this topic some more with one of the professionalist.
