Tetraology of fallot has 4 (thus tetra) key features:
1. a ventricular septal defect (a hole between the ventricles)
2. levels of obstruction from the right ventricle to the lungs
3. aorta lies directly over the ventricular septal defect
4. right ventricle develops thickened muscle.
Tetrology of fallot is treated with surgery. Since tetrology of fallot is birth defect, temporary operation may be done if baby is still small, and then later tetrology of fallot surgery. |
