My son weight lifting (he is 17). i mentioned also in previous posts I am afraid of his height (I read somewhere weight lifting and body building causes slow growth). he has been weight lifting one year now and results are visible. He is happy, mum is happy
However, this is not just a happy story. He developed stretchmarks on upper arms, which is very annoying for him.
Anyone knows what should we do to prevent stretch marks - what can we do to about them? |

Stretch marks are very common in body builders. Stretch marks happen because skin stretches - for example in your son's case, probably his upper arms enlarged very in previous year- he's pumped his muscles. this growing, pumping, how ever you wanna call it, happens to fast for skin to follow this fast changes- the body grows to fast and skin cannot catch up with it (same is when we gain or loose weight to fast)- stretch marks occur. The sam ehappened with your son- he added muscle mass and this caused him stretch marks.
Some creams are on the market that are advertised to help reduce appearance of stretchmarks. I wouldn't buy them- I know no body that had any succes with them. second option is surgical removal, which I also wouldn't recommend. Your son is 17 and his skin will stretch some more probably. Finally, here is a good news. Stretchmarks (when they occur) are quite visible, but in time (few months) fade over and become less noticeable.
Calm down your son and explain ying-yang philosophy- he actually wanted results and with good results there always come something that is not so good. And congratulations to him on good body buliding results.
