I have a question about pregnansy and yoga. I am type of person that needs physical activity on daily basis- currently i run at leas 2-3 miles daily, and i need that. It is like a drug. I know running isn't recommendable during pregnansy, because of possible falls and injuries. The same is with other sport activities, and since we are planning pregnansy, i will have to switch to some 'lighter' activities, such as walking and yoga. I know walking cannot be dangerous, and is recommendable, but i hear different opinions about yoga. Some recommend it as substitute for previous exercises, while some people say it could cause premature labor. Is someone more familiar with yoga during pregnansy? Was anyone practicing yoga during pregnansy?
Thanks for reply! |

I practiced yoga during pregancy, but I took yoga class for pregnant women. If oyu haven't practiced yoga before, i would recommend you to do it the same.
I found yoga is the perfect work out for me, but i am not like you. I don't like running and similar sports, although yoga isn't that easy either.
Anyway, yoga during pregnansy is very beneficial for pregnant woman- my docotr recommended yoga to me, it was not my idea. It helped me relax and worked as great anti-stressor.
I trully recommed you take prenatal yoga class, because not all yoga exercises should be made during pregnancy: for example, after first trimester you shouldn't do any asanas on your back, because it can reduce blood flow to the uterus. Also, if practining yoga during pregnansy, you shouldn't stretch the muscles too much, particularly the abdominals. And many, many other details, that you should or shouldn't do if practinign yoga during pregnansy.
Thus, take prenatal yoga class- they will teach you what asanas you should (n't) do, and they will teach you to do them the right way. Only that way you'll truly benefit from yoga itself. |

Hi!
Thank you for reply!
I am not pregnant yet, so prenatal yoga classes actually don't suit me . I guess you're right- i should take some classes to see how to do those exercises correctly hence there are lots of specifics (so i read)- about placing legs, hands, breathing, etc..
Anyway, thanks for taking your time, and answering my question! |

About running during pregnansy: it may be dangerous because of potential falls.
But if running is part of your daily routine, it is fine to continue. Just ask your doctor first, and be careful not to trip or something. |
